Announcing the Oracle Album Release

A new album is like a summit achieved. It is not just the music composed, the recording and mixing completed, it is also an emotional time when the  internal private visions, the whispers of inspiration from the muses and experiences and impressions gathered in a thematic collage forms a coherent image.  An album is a collection of melodic threads that become themes and counterpoint ultimately weaving a harmonic story that can carry you into your own inner world of dreams and inspiration. Through the composition and recording process what were once merely shadowy   impressions have taken form and become something tangible and now, most importantly, shareable.

During our travels in Greece we were impressed by the hallowed remains of monumental devotion to this intangible existence of the divine wisdom that gives meaning to our lives. On the island of Mykonos a wise man told us to  listen to the legends then look beyond the words. He said, “the legends are real, and the meaning is timeless.”

Ater visiting the island of Delos, birthplace of Apollo, the god of music and healing, we journeyed to Delphi, home of the Oracle.

The Oracle of Delphi was one of the most famous religious institutions of the ancient Greek world, centered at the sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi. For nearly a thousand years (roughly from the 8th century BCE to the 4th century CE), it was considered the spiritual heart of Greece.

The Setting

Delphi was believed to be the navel of the world (the omphalos), marked by a sacred stone. Nestled on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, the site had temples, a theater, and a stadium, but at its heart was the Temple of Apollo, where the oracle gave her prophecies. It is possible to stand in the shell of what was once the temple of Apollo on the side of Mt Parnasus and catch a breeze that carries an ancient fragrance something seeping from the earth a hint of the intoxication that gives birth to Delphic visions. This is where the music of ‘Oracle’ began. a melody on that breeze, it lingered and expanded over time and now, fully conceived, the melodic whisper weaves through an hour of music that is the album Oracle, a presence, a character, a mystery.

The Pythia

The oracle herself was called the Pythia, a priestess chosen from the local women. She would sit on a tripod over a chasm inside the temple, often after fasting and purification rituals. Ancient sources say she inhaled vapors (possibly from natural gases seeping through the rocks) and entered a trance. In this altered state, she spoke in cryptic or ecstatic utterances, which priests then interpreted into verse or prose.

The belief in music as a universal force based on the very vibrational ratios that give birth to creation that foster resonance and inspire the sense of union between earth and sky.

Cultural and Spiritual Meaning

The Oracle embodied the Greek belief in divine communication with humans. She spoke for Apollo, the god of prophecy, light, music, and healing. Delphi was also home to the Delphic Maxims—short ethical sayings like “Know thyself” and “Nothing in excess”—which reflect the philosophical spirit of the site.
